The scool

Welcome to the Barnes Summer Play School! The school has been established for 19 years and is a small family run business looking after the needs for children between the ages of 3 – 7 years during the long summer school holidays. Big Top Adventures is an extension of Barnes Summer Play School and was started 9 years ago to provide children between the ages of 8 - 12 years with some constructive and entertaining fun during the summer.

Located in Barnes (SW13 9HJ), the school is open for 5 weeks each year Monday to Friday from 9.30am – 3.30pm. (extended hours are available with prior discussion). 21st July - 22nd August 2008 - Reserve a place for your child

The obvious theme that runs through the school is that all children have enormous fun and value their very precious time at simply being children!

Barnes Summer Play School is Ofsted Registered and every two years undergoes an inspection. All schools registered with Ofsted have to comply with precise standards set by Ofsted. To view the most recent report on Barnes Summer Play School visit www.Ofsted.gov.uk

Staffing policy

All our staff have experience working with children between the ages of 3-12 years. At least half the compliment of staff will be qualified teachers presently working in a school or those with NVQ level 2 or 3 in Playwork or child care.  All staff are CRB checked. The staff arrive at school around 9:00am to set up and greet the children.  Once a week there is full staff meeting lasting around one hour, and every evening after school there is a short daily debrief to make sure we didn’t overlook anything important during the school day.  All staff will attend these meetings.  The staff are very carefully chosen for their ability to ‘muck in’ as well as their ability to play with children, listen to them and take extra care to make them feel special and loved.

Lunchtime is a perfect opportunity for staff and children to mingle and talk on a one to one basis.  All children from all age groups and staff eat together in the large hall.  Staff at Barnes Summer Play School and Big Top Adventures have the right to express themselves and make suggestions as well as come up with ideas for the day ahead. All staff are fully encouraged to join in with singing, mini-aerobics, French and Spanish, as well as producing their own piece of art work which they can also take home! A good working relationship is extremely important at Barnes Summer Play School and Big Top Adventures and staff are encouraged to work as a team.   All members of staff are treated equally regardless of age, qualifications and experience.

All staff at Barnes Summer Play School and Big Top Adventures will regard the children as individuals and encourage positive behaviour with praise and encouragement. Punishment is negative and unacceptable.
- Staff are happy to encourage a child to express anger and we respect their right to do so.
- Staff are Not Allowed to: shout at, devalue, isolate, ridicule and use corporal punishment on any child.

"if a child lives with hostility, he learns to fight"
"if a child lives with tolerance, he learns to be patient".
