Big Top Adventures is an excursion-based school catering for 8 – 12 year olds. Every day the children are taken somewhere different in and around London. Public transport is used as well as the riverboats and a coach with an experienced driver is hired for longer journeys. Big Toppers will go all over London on

  • the National Portrait Gallery for a workshop
  • Regents Park Open Air Theatre
  • Imax 3D cinema
  • London Zoo
  • Hampton Court Palace
  • Madame Tussauds
  • Football Training with Fulham and to visit Chelsea’s ground.
  • Windsor Castle
  • Biking in Richmond Park.
  • London Eye
  • River trips
  • BBC behind the scenes

The adventures progress and develop each year, with huge emphasise on stimulating the children and educating them without losing their attention!
The maximum amount of children taken out each day is 12 and there are ALWAYS three members of staff to accompany them. The ratio of staff is 4: 1
Packed lunch is required. Children may only bring healthy food. Chocolates, sweets, crisps, cakes, fizzy drinks are not allowed to be consumed. The children and the staff all enjoy lunch together.

Bottled water, Organic fruit, vegetables and juice are provided throughout the day. Bottled water is given to the children on Big Top excursions.

Schedule for Week One 18th July – 22nd July 2011

Monday 18th July
Football Fun! Full kit needed (the team you support is fine). Tough training session and then a match to win!

Tuesday 19th July
Pools on the Park - Swimming and picnic around this lovely outdoor pool in Richmond. Don’t forget your towel (and goggles if you need them). £1 is needed for the locker – you will get this back of course!

Wednesday 20th July
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. at the IMAX in 3D. The 7th and final adventure in the Harry potter series. Performance is at 12.00pm so we may be back a little later than usual.

Thursday 21st July
The South Bank . celebrates the Festival of Britain with constant events throughout the day. Street performers, helter skelter, a beach to have a picnic lunch on, and a gorgeous line of colorful and inspiring artist-designed beach huts line Queen’s Walk along the river in front of Royal Festival Hall. The ice creams are on us!

Friday 22nd July
Beckonscot Model Village and Railway It is the oldest original model village in the world! It portrays aspects of England dating from the 1930s. Everybody loves it here!

Monday 25th July
Coral Reef – Bracknell's Water World . Snake River Flumes and Rapids! Hopefully you are not signing up for this if you can’t swim?

Tuesday 26th July
Dance workshop – Chloe and Charlene will turn you into confident dancers in a day! They are trained all round dancers (disco, street, jazz, jive etc.). Please wear dance clothes (easy to wear) and either jazz pumps or the equivalent. Prepare to be dazzled!! Based in Small Hall

Wednesday 27th July
Roald Dahl Museum and story centre in the village of Great Missenden. You will enjoy a ‘Making Bunting’ workshop which is all part of the 50 year anniversary of James and the Giant Peach.

Thursday 28th July
A taste of Mizu Shotokan Karate Do with Clint Furlonge-Walker (who is a 5th Dan) and his team. Karate is brilliant for children. It teaches confidence, self-esteem, self-discipline, strength, flexibility and good coordination and it is safer than most other sports! Based in Small Hall

Friday 29th July
Tate to Tate River Service – Fast Catamaran. The Exterior was designed by Damien Hirst – Spotty Boat! The children will visit either Tate Britain, or Tate Modern (they will choose!) Picnic lunch on the South Bank.

Schedule for Week Three 1st August – 5th August 2011

Monday 01st August
HMS Belfast and The Golden Hind – Visiting firstly London’s floating Naval Museum. (the ship was active during World War II. You can explore all 9 decks) then climb aboard The Golden Hind – a replica of Sir Francis Drake’s ship and explore.

Tuesday 02nd August
Photographic Workshop with Michael Bennett. Be the face behind the camera instead of in front of it for a day! Based in the small hall.

Wednesday 03rd August
Brighton for a stroll along the pier and a paddle in the sea. Picnic lunch on the stoney beach to the sound of splashing waves! Bus leaves at 9am. Early start.

Thursday 04th August
Drama Workshop - GREASE is the word!! The drama team will audition you and put you through your paces as a member of the GREASE line up. Show at the end of the day for parents to see!

Friday 05th August
Cookery Workshop – make a cool and healthy smoothie whilst waiting for the carrot cake to cook (Yvonne’s special Carrot Cake recipe) Parents will get to try it! This takes place at Yvonne’s house in Southfields. School bus.

Monday 8th August
World of Golf at New Malden. A 60-bay driving range with Power Tee Mats over a floodlit course, Jurassic Encounter Adventure Golf, putting green, and more…

Tuesday 9th August
Age of Dinosaur Exhibition @ The Natural History Museum. . Travel back more than 65 million years to Jurassic forests and Cretaceous deserts. Meet life-size, moving animatronic dinosaurs and other strange creatures among the smells and sounds of prehistoric lands. A look around the museum after attending the exhibition.

Wednesday 10th August
Peter Pan Adventure Playground. Everyone loves this imaginative play area. Nestled between the trees in Kensington Gardens, it's inspired by J M Barrie's novel, Peter Pan.

Thursday 11th August
Roald Dahl Museum and story centre in the village of Great Missenden. Create your own Art project with the Roald Dahl team leading the way.

Friday 12th August
Drama workshop . This year (2011) is the global celebration of the 50th anniversary of JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH so we are joining in with the fun and running our own Peach-themed drama workshop! Based in the small hall and run by the drama team.

Schedule for Week Five 15th August – 19th August 2011

Monday 15th August
Holland Park Adventure Playground. This great adventure playground has swings, aerial runway, mini climbing wall, climbing frames. You will need trainers for this and rainwear in a small back pack.

Tuesday 16th August
Serpentine Boating Lake – You must be a good swimmer for this. We stay on the river for at least an hour. Followed by picnic and games in Hyde Park.

Wednesday 17th August
Woburn Safari Park Come and see the big animals on the Road Safari, and enjoy the smaller animals that you can meet on the Foot Safari. Enjoy Swan Lake and the inside soft play jungle area. Bring a Camera! School bus. Early start.

Thursday 18th August
The Imperial War Museum . is unique in its coverage of conflicts, especially those involving Britain and the Commonwealth, from the First World War to the present day. Great child centered learning areas.

Friday 19th August
Sports Day in Richmond Park Games, Races, Egg and Spoon, bean bag races and Ice Creams if nobody gets eaten by the deer! Sports shoes a MUST and backpacks. .
